The Surly Hurdy Gurdy is a chain tensioning device designed specifically for Surly’s Gnot Boost dropout system. It helps keep wheel positioning consistent during installation and removal, making rear wheel alignment easier and more repeatable, especially on bikes running single speed or internally geared hub setups.

Built from stainless steel, the Hurdy Gurdy mounts directly to compatible Surly frames and acts as a simple wheel locating guide during axle installation. It is a small but genuinely useful addition for riders regularly removing wheels for travel, flat repairs, or drivetrain maintenance. It will work with standard QRs, bolted axles, and nutted axles up to 10mm.
